after the success of the first release by ivan iacobucci, holic trax sublabel monoklo now enlists berlin-based martin lewis for three hot tracks featuring a remix from label boss man and japanese don tomoki tamura. no nonsense opener the wax is a supple, rubbery roller with sparse stabs accompanying the infectious groove. -poetry- then sinks down into a more warming and human groove, with smeared synths bringing colour and heat to a loose house groove, before lewis shows his skills at choppy techno with drumcatch. tomoki tamura also remixes this latter track, stripping it right back to a suggestive, infectious final groove with feather light percussion, skewed chords and involving sub bass that laps at the heels of the track.

ruhig comes back after one year with particles ep as first installment of a double ep on midgar. the record opens with particles, an atmospheric detroit influenced cut made out of synthlines dropping like voodoo spells, epic pads and fragmented beats. eddying follows up with a more direct approach to the dancefloor, 4/4 stomping beat and thin hi-hats backed by lasers and passionate ambiances. etere on the b-side gives the records an halfway breath, sounds like a late afternoon walk in the fields of a southern countryside village (with constructions going on somewhere nearby), before to start again with the sweet and eerie perle, where droney pinching drums are flooded by a swarm of dreamy fireflies. idiom to close the ep with a fast syncopated cut, showing the approach of ruhig to any form of musical expression and genre, far from traditional ambient or deep techno and going further, to reach out daring and more demanding levels.

mikkel metal was the first artist on echocord, and the main reason why the label was started back then. after many many releases we are very happy and proud that he now returns with a full lenght album. more than 7 years after his last long-player album mikkel metal returns with a new album for echocord. bypassing dub-techno as the starting point, this is music clearly consistent with earlier output. we are presented with 10 tracks that all evolve with around a melancholic melodic framework. while there is clearly a nod to detroit and another to dub- techno, the overall impression is consistently and unmistakably the sound of mikkel metal. a hypnotic, very enjoyable and thorough return from the danish artist.

q3a is a new alias of route 8, a producer who has credits on labels like lobster theremin and nous as well as black venison. now the producer serves up a sumptuous four track ep, space chamber, on the delsin label and it touches on many different styles with equally great results. lost souls is first and is an expansive bit of well driven deep house with rich synths and cavernous innards that really suck you in. next up is another serenely crafted bit of atmospheric house with dusty drums and lose hits all backed with heavenly pads and retro bass. the first of the b-side tracks is a chunky acid kicker with angelic vocals drifting up top as a controlled 303 line rips up the foreground. spaced out and deep, driving yet emotive, it is a moving bit of club music before the b2 trips you out on a silvery electro tip with its icy lines and slap-funk snares. overall, this is an expansive and perfectly formed ep and comes with a sleeve by boris tellegen.
